— My own personal favorite song by Spirit is ‘Nature’s Way,’
included here. I also like the first song a lot, while “Mr. Skin”
always somewhat “troubled” me, though it’s really the nickname of
one of the musicians (because of his bald head), LOL
His real name is Ed Cassidy, he’s on drums here as usual
with Spirit. See which are your favorite songs! – These
songs have a psychedelic, progressive punk rock sound that
was popular, with a lot of FM airplay,
in the late 60’s to early 70’s and if
you’ll give them half a chance, you’ll find that
Spirit really sounds great.

Spirit ~ Rockpalast 1978
(Full concert)

Around 1969 to 1970 Spirit and later it’s Lead Singer,
Jay Ferguson, brought Psychedelic Punk Rock
to New Heights of Popularity

The Daily Walk with Love (Link to homepage and blog), May 15, 2020, by Paul Evans, (email sailingtokansas@gmail.com), video is Spirit ~ Rockpalast 1978, (Full concert), courtesy of YouTube – 1:00:44. If you haven’t listened to the great sound of this band, I guarantee you will be surprised and impressed. They are a little less “punk” in style than they were at the band’s start, but the sound really works for me. Spirit is always a good listen, even if you know them well, and this is one cool Spirit concert. Featured photograph courtesy of Ultimate Classsic Rock. Secondary, included, color photograph is courtesy of Pinterest. I’ve loved Spirit’s music for decades and (truthfully) I hadn’t listened to this concert yet, but sure am enjoying it! There are some songs here I didn’t know Spirit did, even some Dylan.

A New Direction
for The Daily Walk with Love

Here at The Daily Walk, we’ve been talking to you a LOT about music and hopefully bringing you some really cool sounds, but we’ve also spoken a lot about religion and politics and also topics relating to health. To do that this is to invite a lot of criticism and just plain “bad news.” So, from now on, while we will still bring you SOME news, and some human interest stories, except for a few republications, I’m going to BE COOL, as humourously, kinda sarcastically as they say, and just chill out with some cool tunes (music), as well as to see if I have any ability for writing for all of us to enjoy. Also there will be the usual comparative Christian religion which is our hallmark. I expect my own life to be a lot easier and worry free that way, and I do hope we can ALL OF US, be one big human family, will just LISTEN TO THE MUSIC and enjoy it. So be it. That’s right: the powers that be are shall we say, “strongly hinting” that maybe I should do something like chilling out with some cool tunes for a while. “Who am I,” like the Casting Crowns song says, to mess with that? I’m being upfront and honest and admitting to you, my life over the last five years has been pretty hellish because I kept trying to make the world better, telling too much “truth” and giving out with too many facts that those in power did not like at all. I still hope to make my contribution, too, one of those “points of light.” I do pray to God that He helps us all. I’ll always support the common man and stand for a more caring, sharing society with more equality of opportunity, within a capitalist framework. And I’m all for peace and love, toleration and acceptance. (At the same time, on some of the social issues I am rather conservative.)

Welcome to the Daily Walk with Love:
Let’s Chat!

Really, if you want to chat with me, you should download and install the new Google Duo; just do a Google search, it’s the top result, or if you’re using a cell phone, you can get it from Google Play, I’m sailingtokansas@gmail.com. That is the future of videochatting, much better than Hangouts. But for a while, anyway folks, just to survive and “get along,” it’s just music videos for me, I’m just gonna mainly blog music. After all, we are “The ‘Official’ Music Blog of the CIA,” so we’d better get about our business!! I do apologize, I thought a lot of our articles had a real interest to people, but for me, at least for now, I thought I’d let “you kids” worry about religious disputes and politics and such. I think that’s what God (and the security-type people) want from me, and I aim to please…. Hey, check out the Google Custom Search, you can find a LOT of Truth here. I do also have in mind now to write an article all about the “earth-moon synergy” and how that works and tie it in to both witchcraft and Christianity. Understanding each other is never a bad thing. I hope you really like the music we hope to find and place in these blog posts, anyway.

This change might just be for “a while,” if some major change presents itself on the American political stage. And there will also be re-writes of old articles, just like the big “news sources” also do. But for now, mainly, consider me just another music blogger. CIA, NSA, Microsoft, Google, it’s safe now, perhaps I might enjoy my life a bit more….

Remember, Donald Trump, sir, it is written, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall know God.” Also please remember that with the real Misery Index the way it is, it is currently in the selfish interest of the rich to help the poor. In that way we will avoid the economic precipice we seem poised to step off, into the chaos of a bad global depression. (I’m also saying that the party which restored the food stamps cuts, which is NOT that much money, $38 billion a year, would help the poor a lot and look like heroes to the common man. You could even campaign as the party who cares about the common man. THAT would win votes. Just sayin’.) President Trump, we want you to know, we see a lot of merit in a LOT of what you have been trying to accomplish, and we’re with you, just, please, help the poor, won’t you?

Freshman year of college (1975), my roommate “Sully,” whom I dearly loved, told me about an album, The 12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus, which I honestly feel is Spirit’s best album, so I bought it on vinyl and I just love this music a lot. (O.K., this particular concert from 1978, is an absolutely new concert and publication for us, tell your friends! But thanks, Sully, wherever you are, you are one cool dude!

Spirit sounds basically like punk-rock to me, but it is strongly psychedelic and progressive rock, too. The band’s start was pretty early in the whole evolution of punk sounds, but sounds very matured. I don’t normally cover punk-rock, but this sound is really good and I do love psychedelic sounds, so here is some great Spirit for you! Sources as noted. The lead singer of Spirit, Jay Ferguson, had a successful solo career after the band split up, with such notable hits as Thunder Island (YouTube playlist with many other notable artists). Also watch and listen to Spirit – Spirit 1968 Full Album, YouTube punk rock music video – 1:03:19. This is fairly early Spirit and has a more pure “punk” sound. Later, despite protestations to the contrary, Spirit had a somewhat more mainstream psychedelic or punk-rock sound (and more commercial success, too).

Suggested reading from October 20, 2016 is The Third Force of Life, Duality and The Doctrine of Coexistence, The Daily Walk with Miracles, by Paul Evans:

SUMMARY: There is a wrongness about time which finds it’s expression in our modern society in its obsessions over time and schedules. [(It’s not so much darkness that is evil, it’s our obsession with time, and a “wrongness” in the fabric of the space-time continuum. As a matter of fact, when Microsoft and the computer geeks “fix” synchronization issues, that is going to essential fix or “heal” time on earth, and we’ll all more or less live in a simultaneous state of NOW, everywhere on earth, and all live more mindfully aware lives as well.)] As the rock band Chicago said, “does anybody really know what time it is? Does anybody care? If so I can’t imagine why.” Try to live more process oriented instead of goal oriented and enjoy the life you have been given. “Life is a gift, for which we are grateful.” Live with hope but also with acceptance and in such a way as to grow personally and hopefully to help others: this is true fulfillment. Microsoft and other computer geeks are creating a much more mindfully aware “simultaneous now” and thus healing the flaw in time, which will help heal the world. As I have often joked, “hug a geek today, you may end up working for one tomorrow.” Watch Steve Jobs, “Computers are like a bicycle for our minds.” – Michael Lawrence Films, YouTube short documentary — 1:39.

More on the Punk Rock band Spirit

My own personal favorite song by Spirit is “Nature’s Way,” which is in the included video. Spirit was “active” in 1967-73, 1974-79 and 1982-97. My best source Wikipedia states that their overall style was “psychedelic rock, progressive rock, hard rock, and jazz-rock,” but I definitely feel that they have a strong “punk” element, too. Wikipedia says of the band Spirit:

Spirit was an American rock band founded in 1967 and based in Los Angeles, California. Their most commercially successful single in the United States was “I Got a Line on You”. They were also known for their albums, including their self-titled debut album, The Family That Plays Together, Clear, and Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus.

The original lineup of the group evolved from a Los Angeles band, the Red Roosters, which included Randy California (guitars, vocals), Mark Andes (bass), and Jay Ferguson (vocals, percussion). With the addition of California’s stepfather, Ed Cassidy (drums), and keyboard player John Locke, the new band was originally named the Spirits Rebellious (after a book by Kahlil Gibran), but the name was soon shortened simply to Spirit. In 1966 California played with Jimi Hendrix (then known as Jimmy James) in his band Jimmy James and the Blue Flames. In this 1978 concert, March 4th and fifth, 1978, we had Randy California – g/voc/Moog Taurus; Ed Cassidy – drums; and Larry “Fuzzy” Knight – bass

Cassidy was recognizable by his shaven head (hence his nickname “Mr. Skin”, later the title of a Spirit song) and his fondness for wearing black. He was about twenty years older than the rest of the group (born in 1923). His earlier career was primarily in jazz and included stints with Cannonball Adderley, Gerry Mulligan, Roland Kirk, Thelonious Monk, and Lee Konitz. He was a founding member of Rising Sons with Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder.

Please feel encouraged to visit the Spirit page on Facebook, where they have only 475 Likes (as of this morning). Spirit only had the two main hits and just aren’t that well known, but I think they really rock nicely. Jay Ferguson (e.g., Thunder Island) had better success, although in the late sixties to the late seventies, Spirit was fairly well known. Apple music sells Spirit’s songs individually in iTunes format, from 99 cents to $1.29 each, and has all their albums for sale, too, as well as good basic coverage of the band, although for some reason they place Spirit in the “new age” category. Nonsense. Amazon.com has great digital mp3 albums by Spirit mostly for $8.99 or $9.99, which is a pretty good deal, isn’t it? Now I KNOW my fellow geeks would NEVER download any of this in any way illegally, right? These days me neither. Let’s all “get right with God” and work to make the system better from within!
