Here is some vital news from today on global warming, and some ideas I have had over recent years about stopping earth’s runaway climate. Let’s hope it’s not too late. May God have mercy on us. My personal “hunch” is that the surface temperature on earth has a lot more to do with “insolation,” and amount and various kinds of solar radiation which reaches us, as controlled mainly through the sun’s output, and not any of mankind’s efforts, but I feel we have to do what we can.

ABC News:

Nearly 200 nations have reached a deal, announced Saturday morning after all-night negotiations, to limit the use of greenhouse gases far more powerful than carbon dioxide in a major effort to fight climate change.

…The talks on hydrofluorocarbons, or HFCs, were called the first test of global will since the historic Paris Agreement to cut carbon emissions was reached last year. HFCs are described as the world’s fastest-growing climate pollutant and are used in air conditioners and refrigerators. Experts say cutting them is the fastest way to reduce global warming.

President Barack Obama, in a statement Saturday, called the new deal “an ambitious and far-reaching solution to this looming crisis.”

See New Miracle Solar Technology to Replace Oil, Gas, Coal and Fuel Abundant Future, The Daily Walk with Miracles, August 14, 2016, by Paul Evans: “Bottom Line: 5 cents per kilowatt hour (some companies are offering 7.7 cents right now). Efficiency’s 1,000 times better than solar ever had before. And absolutely amazing investment opportunities from technologies utilizing simple grains of sand heated from solar rays and their latent heat to drive turbines (watch video to find out more).”

See NPR News:

The European Parliament voted Tuesday to ratify the landmark Paris climate accord, paving the way for the international plan to curb greenhouse gas emissions to become binding as soon as the end of this week.

With U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon watching, representatives from the 28 European Union member countries voted 610 to 38 in favor of the agreement. Now, each individual country must sign off before the ratification documents can be formally presented to the United Nations.

The climate agreement has two requirements before it can go into effect: It must be ratified by 55 nations, and the ratifying countries must account for 55 percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. As of Sunday, when India formally turned in its paperwork, the totals stood at 62 countries producing about 52 percent of emissions. [The EU vote put the total approval mark well over the needed countries producint 52 percent of emmissions, so the treaty becomes binding.

The Guardian: U.S. and China agree on Paris Climate Accord:

The United States and China, the world’s biggest emitters of greenhouse gases, have announced they will formally ratify the Paris climate change agreement in a move campaigners immediately hailed as a significant advance in the battle against global warming.

With China’s and the United States approving the Paris accord, the stage is set for other nations to follow suit, and for the accord to be ratified. See Reuters:

China has gone to great lengths to try to make the Sept 4-5 G20 summit a success, hoping to cement its standing as a global power, but a range of thorny diplomatic topics could overshadow the agenda.

G20 leaders are likely to renew their promises to use tax and spending policies to invigorate the sluggish world economy, although a new pro-growth push was unlikely.

My Personal Struggle to Understand Global Warming
and Conceive of Solutions to It

Like a lot of people, I’ve struggled with the whole issue of global warming and have had a hard time understanding and knowing just what the truth is. A couple years ago “they” said that 10 of the 12 warmest years on record have been in the last 15 years. That’s a little scary, but it’s important to realize that these temperature records only go back a few hundred years. Measuring “paleo-temperature” (paleo-climate, reconstructing what ancient climate was like), from the past could be done using ice cores or even tree rings (dendrology), and I’m sure quite a lot of work has been done on that. The purpose here is only to give the reader a “news flash” about just how bad it seems to be getting, and it was a VERY warm winter here in Ohio for the last couple of years, for what it’s worth. (It is not really important to the overall picture how your location or state is doing, the most important statistics are a global average.) But REALLY frightening is the news that June was Earth’s 14th straight record warm month, USA Today, July 19, 2016, by Doyle Rice. (August was mostly warm around the world, too.)

Global Warming is Real

The point is, the global temperature is in fact rising too much, too fast. For those who insist the ocean temperature is almost stable, I point to you to look up the temperatures At Depth, where there is very strong warming. The earth, to a certain extent, mitigates this with a foodback loop wherein CaC03 (limestone ooze) is precipitated when the temperature rises. This is an “endothermic” (energy consuming) reaction, thus lowering ocean temperatures), but the process takes hundreds of years, and frankly, we don’t have that long to fix the problem. I want to give you my ideas on how to lower earth’s temperature. As always, this begins like any change, with each of us. Also I want to make clear that I do in fact have some credentials to be writing on this subject: I have 11 years of college in geology and earth science, and have taken a graduate level coursee in human ecology. But this article is meant for everybody to be able to understand, not just scientists. I really think that, while carbon emmisions may make short-term problems or contribution to global warming, the overall climate and temperature on earth is fully dependent on incoming solar radiation trends (insolation).

See The New York Times:

The nations of the world agreed years ago to try to limit global warming to a level they hoped would prove somewhat tolerable. But leading climate scientists warned on Tuesday that permitting a warming of that magnitude would actually be quite dangerous.

The likely consequences would include killer storms stronger than any in modern times, the disintegration of large parts of the polar ice sheets and a rise of the sea sufficient to begin drowning the world’s coastal cities before the end of this century, the scientists declared.

“We’re in danger of handing young people a situation that’s out of their control,” said James E. Hansen, the retired NASA climate scientist who led the new research. The findings were released Tuesday morning by a European science journal, Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics.

How to Stop Global Warming:
Plant Trees

Excerpt from How to End Global Warming, March 22,2016, by Paul Evans with Dan Hershberger.

“In wilderness is the preservation of the world.” (~ Henry David Thoreau) Want to fix global warming? The much ballyhooed carbon tax (in any form of it so far proposed) is rigged so that big corporations would actually make money off of the taxes, while the ordinary man and small businesses would suffer an unfair burden. Conservatives are completely justified in opposing the carbon tax. But what if the answer is simple and just has been overlooked? In New England 25 years ago it was very hot. New England then was 25 percent forested. Now New England is 43 percent forested and last winter they had to spend $60 billion on salt and road work (it got colder there). So, to fix global warming, just plant a bunch of trees, maybe pine trees, which grow quickly. This also keeps the air clean. Did you know that fully one-quarter of global warming is from the use of styrofoam, which lasts 150 years in the environment?

“The best time to plant a tree is always 20 years ago. The next-best time is always today.” ~ Old Chinese Proverb.
