Donald Trump appoints Breitbart chief
Stephen Bannon to lead campaign

Bannon “has been a key figure in the
anti-establishment revolt that has swept through
the Republican party,” wants to “let Trump be Trump”

The Daily Walk with Miracles, August 18, 2016, by Paul Evans, included image of Steve Bannon courtesy of, main excerpt from Donald Trump appoints Breitbart chief Stephen Bannon to lead campaign, The Guardian, August 17, 2018, by Dan Roberts in Washington, Lauren Gambino and Haroon Siddique, with additional coverage from Donald Trump Names Breitbart Exec Campaign CEO in Massive Staff Shake-Up, The Wrap, August 17, 2016, by Brian Flood. The addition of Bannon brings a strong voice from the conservative media who intends to make the campaign more “business like” and “let Trump be Trump.” Pollster Kellyanne Conway was also added as campaign manager. The Guardian, in Stephen Bannon: can Trump’s fiery new campaign chief spark a comeback? August 17, 2016, by Dan Roberts, says “The hiring of the Breitbart News chair makes perfect sense – the rightwing media website has spent months stoking the flames of Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric.” Also see Trump’s Breitbart hire sends tremors through Capitol Hill, The Hill, August 17, 2016, by Niall Stanage and Scott Wong: “Donald Trump’s campaign shake-up is being seen on Capitol Hill as yet another shot across the bows of the GOP establishment.” Stephen Bannon is seen as an enemy of the “conventional” Republican Party and perhaps especially of House Speaker Paul Ryan.

NEW: See 5 takeaways from Trump’s pick of Breitbart exec as campaign CEO, The Hill, August 18, 2016, by Jonathan Easley: “Donald Trump’s decision to make Breitbart News executive Steve Bannon his campaign CEO is being viewed as full-fledged rebuke of the Republican establishment and the mainstream media.”

Yahoo, in Donald Trump Taps Breitbart Executive for Top Campaign Post, Yahoo, August 17, 2016, by Ted Johnson, describes Stephen Bannon’s important role in recent conservative media:

Bannon, who also has been the host of Breibart News Daily on SiriusXM, has longtime ties to the entertainment industry, as a financier and filmmaker. He was executive producer of “The Indian Runner” in 1991, co-executive producer of “Titus” in 1999, and executive producer of “Sweetwater” in 2013. Over the past decade, he set out to produce a number of conservative documentaries, including “In the Face of Evil: Reagan’s War in Word and Deed,” “Fire from the Heartland: The Awakening of the Conservative Woman,” and, in 2011, “The Undefeated.” The latter was a documentary about Sarah Palin and also was released theatrically. This cycle, he produced “Clinton Cash,” a probe of the Clintons and their personal wealth.

The Trump campaign noted that Bloomberg Politics recognized Bannon as the “most dangerous political operative in America.” He became executive chairman of Breitbart News after the death of its founder, Andrew Breitbart, in 2013.

Bannon, said The Guardian, is “a former Goldman Sachs banker who made part of his fortune through a stake in Seinfeld, has been a key figure in the anti-establishment revolt that has swept through the Republican party. He is likely to favour the ‘Let Trump be Trump’ approach of Manafort’s pugnacious predecessor, Corey Lewandowski, and encourage a new ‘gloves off’ approach to attacking his opponent.”

The Wrap added:

Bannon will temporarily step down from his role with the conservative news site to work full time on Trump’s campaign. His position is designed to bolster the “business-like approach” of the organization, according to a press release.

“I believe we’re adding some of the best talents in politics, with the experience and expertise needed to defeat Hillary Clinton in November and continue to share my message and vision to Make America Great Again,” Trump said.
