Paul Evans: Who I Am & What I Believe In

People never cease to amaze me with how little they think of me, or make me feel that way (and I’m like anyone else, it really hurts me). But, right here at the beginning of this article, let me make it perfectly clear to everyone: I’m not Communist, I’m not even socialist, I’m not neo-nazi, nor am I ultra-right wing. I am “Truth, Justice, the American way, AND reform.” I am for rationally addressing the terrible issues America faces, and doing so truthfully, pragmatically and practically. Read More …

Editorial: Reflections After 10 Years of Blogging About Politics and Religion

I couldn’t sleep last night so I wanted to do something useful and wrote this. I had a politics website for five years and now
this site about comparative religion, tech (mainly Linux and AI), usually with a music video,
and I tried to get away from politics, but my love for the common man and for America meant I wanted to help there, too. Here are my reflections after ten years of blogging politics and religion. Read More …

The Two Wolves Inside Each of Us

The Two Wolves Inside Each of us is not original to The Daily Walk, although the wording is my own. Here is some original, magical Cherokee folk wisdom, passed down through the generations, from father (or grandfather) to child. I came across this while writing for another website I used to own, Evans Politics. I am not sure, but I think it might be among the several public
domain stories-articles from Dr. Len Kempo’s website. See if perhaps, since it is memorable, you might want to re-tell this wonderful storie to your child. Read More …

HD Pink Floyd Movie & Performance 1988 “Delicate Sound of Thunder”

My own thought is that Alan Parson’s Project and even The Moody Blues rival Pink Floyd in their contribution to progressive rock, but that nobody rivals Pink Floyd in their anti-establishment lyrics (message) or in the psychedelic nature of both their music and their video presentations. Here is a Great bootleg/concert from 1988 I know you will love, with all sorts of goodies and links for you to explore! Pink Floyd was unique. Of Machines, of Men and of Co-evolution

The “technological singularity” (as computers and machines actually become smarter than men are) progresses. Google’s CEO, one of the originators of the whole idea, said that he expected it around 2040. At such, I almost scoff, believing as I do that this actually happened with Windows 8.0 (by a couple of clues), and certainly has been growing strongly in its reach during the reign of Windows 10, (and the control of computers, virtual assistants and robots over our lives). I am in as much a condition to comment on all this as anyone, having spent 15 to 20 hours a day for 15 years as an “internet addict,” working on various websites I have owned, and with ten years of college in the hard sciences. Pope Francis: “Helping the Poor Isn’t Communism, It’s Gospel”

I always felt the disapproval of so many fellow conservatives/Christians because of my strong hope that we will be our brother’s keeper, even if this involves a certain amount of economic redistributionism. I feel somewhat vindicated and defended by some of Pope Francis’ recent statements. But even the founder of modern capitalist theory, Adam Smith, favored a graduated income tax (Wealth of Nations, 1776). Read More …

Speaking from my Heart about Tolerance and Acceptance in Religious Differences

The idea of this article dates back maybe ten years to a sermon given at the local Unitarian-Universalist church here ins Wooster, Ohio, by the pastor, Rev. Strawn. Did you know that more people have died in the last 2,000 years because of religious differences in active religious warfare than from any other single cause? And this is despite Jesus’ wish at the Last Supper “that they all may be one.” In other words, (you know in your heart, now) we must lay aside our differences and and tolerate and accept each other, and cease trying to force everyone to believe just as one person or one church or even one denomination does, in all the doctrines and dogmas which have been put forth. We must (as Pope Francis put it a few years ago) come to know that God is patiently waiting for us to accept his love, with open arms, “NOT as people say we must be, but just as we are.” I have my own ideas about some of the more important beliefs, and teach those ideas here, put forward not as any sort of doctrine at all, but only as a sort of (hopefully informed) exploration, which however I have arrived at through 37 years of on and off study of comparitive religion.
